On 10 December 2019 Uttoxeter Town Council resolved to declare a climate change emergency, and adopt the ‘Friends of the Earth 20 Actions’ Parish and Town Councils can take, on the climate and nature emergency. The Town Council then deferred these actions to the relevant committees.
The Uttoxeter Town Council Biodiversity Committee – Uttoxeter Nature Recovery Network (UNRN) were assigned the following points to consider:
1. Be a force for good – encourage the formation of Climate Action groups
2. Reduce pesticide use and other harmful activities
3. Manage land for nature
4. Increase tree cover
5. Buy green
6. Minimise waste going to landfill or incineration
Therefore, the Biodiversity Committee’s role within the Town Council is to advise on matters affecting biodiversity in the Uttoxeter area, and to initiate and co-ordinate action by the community to promote a vibrant and diverse biosphere in the area.
